Ask Emily – Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 27 October 2026

1. About these terms

These terms apply to your use of Ask Emily on our website, askemily.co.uk. By using Ask Emily, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.

Ask Emily is provided by PlantWorks Limited ("PlantWorks", "we", "us"), a company registered in England and Wales (company number 03905688), at Unit 930 Cornforth Drive, Kent Science Park, Sittingbourne, Kent, ME9 8PX.

Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle any personal information when you use Ask Emily.

We may update these terms from time to time, for example if Ask Emily's features change. The date at the top shows the latest version. Using Ask Emily after an update means you accept the updated terms.

2. Using Ask Emily

Free to use. Ask Emily is free. You don't need an account, and you can chat with Emily by typing or by voice.

Please use Ask Emily fairly. You agree not to:

  • Use it for anything unlawful, harmful, abusive or misleading
  • Share personal information about other people
  • Try to make Emily produce harmful or offensive content, or get around her safeguards
  • Copy, scrape or resell Ask Emily or its answers in bulk, or use them to train other AI systems
  • Interfere with the website's security or overload it with automated requests

Availability. We want Ask Emily to be available whenever you need her, but we can't promise the service will always be available, uninterrupted or error-free. It relies on third-party services (see section 4), and we may change, pause or withdraw features at any time. We may restrict access for anyone who breaks these terms.

3. About Emily's advice

Emily is an AI. Her answers are generated automatically by artificial intelligence. She is not a person, and her answers are not checked by a horticulturist before you see them.

General guidance only. Emily gives general gardening information for home gardeners. Her answers may sometimes be incomplete, out of date or wrong, and she can't see your garden. Please use your own judgement and check important information before acting on it, especially before spending money or treating a valuable plant.

Safety first. Emily's answers are not medical, veterinary or other professional advice. In particular:

  • Never eat any plant, fungus or berry based on Emily's advice alone. Many edible plants have poisonous lookalikes.
  • If a person or pet may have eaten something harmful, contact NHS 111, a doctor or a vet straight away. In an emergency, call 999.
  • Always read and follow the label on any garden product, whatever Emily says.
  • Take care with tools, ladders, chemicals and electrics. Use a qualified professional for large trees, structural work or anything near power lines.

Product suggestions. Emily may suggest Empathy by PlantWorks products where they are relevant and link to our website. Any purchase is made under the terms of the website or retailer you buy from, not these terms.

Results vary. Gardening results depend on weather, soil, plant health and how products are used, so we can't guarantee any particular result from following Emily's advice.

4. Third-party services

Ask Emily is powered by third-party services: OpenAI for Emily's answers, ElevenLabs for voice, and Bolt for website hosting. Our Privacy Policy explains how they handle your information. We are not responsible for interruptions or changes to their services, but we will do our best to keep Ask Emily working.

5. Your messages and our intellectual property

You are responsible for what you type or say to Emily. You give us permission to use your messages to provide Ask Emily and to improve the quality of her advice, as explained in our Privacy Policy.

The Ask Emily name and character, the Empathy and PlantWorks names and logos, and the website's design and content belong to PlantWorks Limited. You may use Emily's answers for your own personal gardening. You may not copy, republish or sell Ask Emily, its branding or its answers for commercial purposes without our written permission.

6. Our responsibility to you

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded under the law of England and Wales. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer.

Subject to that:

  • Ask Emily is provided for private, non-commercial use. We are not responsible for any loss of profit, business or business opportunity.
  • We are not responsible for loss or damage that was not reasonably foreseeable when you used Ask Emily.
  • We are not responsible for loss or damage caused by not following product labels, the safety guidance in section 3, or these terms.

7. Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You can bring legal proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring proceedings in the courts where you live.

8. General

If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we don't enforce a term straight away, we can still enforce it later. These terms are between you and PlantWorks Limited, and no one else has any rights under them.
